German car industry plans to close OBD interface

It seems that the use of the OBD-interface as a way to generate vehicle data for a large number of applications is coming to an end. At least, that’s what a couple of big German- and American car manufacturers think. A proposal from the German automotive association VDA asks for a neutral cloud-based entity that categorizes, manages and distributes these data. The plan is to close the OBD, the diagnosis connection that is present in every car, step by step.

Honestly, that doesn’t surprise us. Luckily we made the right choice 20 years ago, by not making ourselves dependent on OBD. Our technology namely, doesn’t need OBD to read data from all cars.
