BCI supports electric delivery vans for Dutch leading supermarket chain

Published: 13 June 2025

You’ve probably noticed more and more supermarket delivery vans popping up in your street. They weave through residential areas, sometimes parking on side walks with their warning lights on to unload. In these situations safety is of great importance, and that’s where the Beijer CAN Interface (BCI) comes in. Together with Inbouwcentrum Grandia, the delivery vans of a nationally operating supermarket chain are equipped with a BCI, so that the aftermarket system can guarantee this safety.

How the Beijer CAN Interface works

The Beijer CAN interface serves as the intelligent bridge between a vehicle’s CAN networks and any aftermarket systems. It reads essential CAN data from an electric or conventional vehicle and transmits it to aftermarket devices and their applications.

Examples of signals the BCI can make available:

  • Vehicle speed signal
  • Switched power supply (+15)
  • Odometer
  • Reverse signal
  • Fuel level
  • Electric range
  • High beam

BCI functionality in the delivery vans

By supplying a range of vehicle signals, the BCI helps the supermarket’s aftermarket system to safeguard both drivers and other road users.

  • Drive away safely
    • Switched power supply (+15), ensures that the camera at the front of the van remains active for 20 seconds after starting. This ensures extra visibility and time to leave safely for the driver.
    • CAN-bus active, so the navigation can already be operated before the delivery van has started.
  • Safe parking
    • Reverse signal, ensures that the read parking sensors can function.
  • Sufficient visibility
    • Left and right direction indicator light, so the 360 degree camera is automatically activated.
  • Availability other crucial signals:
    • Speed <55
    • Engine run
